outdoor play areas

At the Mulberry Tree, we believe that Outdoor Play is essential for all aspects of a child’s development. It provides children with experiences which enable them to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. It also encourages positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. To make the most of our Outdoor Play areas, we aim to provide a wide range of exciting and stimulating experiences to meet the children’s interests.

We understand the importance of providing a good balance between child-initiated and adult-led experiences and our Outdoor Play areas are designed to support this.

Our Outdoor Play areas are surrounded by security fencing. We also have CCTV cameras to monitor this area. When using our Outdoor Area, appropriate adult to child ratios are adhered to at all times. We have ample outdoor play equipment to suit all of the age ranges in our care. This equipment is regularly checked and replaced if damaged. We have a sand pit in each area which is covered when not in use. We have a large climbing frame which is supervised at all times by one staff member. We also have a planting area where the children learn how to plant herbs, vegetables and flowers throughout the year.
Before each Outdoor Play session, a member of staff will do a visual safety check of the area.

In line with our planning and evaluating of all activities, we will observe and record children’s learning during outdoor play to inform future planning.
